We have recently set up 7 new schemes, which involved supporting 17 people to move into their new home…

Station Road – Derby

Earlier this year we worked with 3 service users and their circles of support to build a service that met both the complex care and housing needs for 3 ladies.

The ladies each have physical disabilities which mean that they are wheelchair users and need specialist equipment to support their independence.

We worked tirelessly to design and build the care and support service that would best meet the needs and aspirations of each. The service users and their families were involved with the recruitment of the staff, and their specialist training, which provided them with an opportunity to meet.

Due to the ladies physical disabilities it was clear that the right property was not readily available.

Denis Hennigan, Chief Executive of Future Housing Solutions, was set the difficult task of solving this issue. Future Housing Solutions teamed up with Pietro Lysaczenko, a Derby based property developer who was building bungalows in Chellaston. After initial meetings it was agreed that the location of the site was good and we were able to work closely with Pietro to redesign the layout of the bungalow to ensure that it fully met the needs of the ladies. This included bigger bedrooms, a large kitchen with accessible work surfaces, a large bathroom with specialist bath, a fully accessible garden and an outside store to house wheel chairs with power charging points so that the electric wheel chairs could be charged overnight. The ladies were able to choose colour schemes and floorings for their bedrooms and were able to see their new home being built over a period of 5 months.

“The bungalow is now complete and the ladies are looking forward to moving in soon”.
